Families living in Burlington County homes can provide many different opportunities for their children’s summertime activities. One of the most popular options for families who have a deep appreciation for art and beauty is the Firehouse Gallery’s Summer Camp in Bordentown, NJ. The Gallery is a Victorian structure originally built in 1886 and is one of the area’s oldest firehouses. It was purchased by Juanita Crosby in 1969 and underwent major renovations. Mr. Gibbons bought it in 1994. In 2003 he made even more improvements to the teaching and living spaces within the building, and from 1994 until 2004 it hosted many exhibitions of local and international artists. Poetry and music events, including some evenings of opera, rounded out the Firehouse Gallery’s contribution to the local community’s art scene.
As Mr. Gibbons’ artwork began to grow in popularity he made the Gallery a studio dedicated to showcasing his artwork in 2005. However, Burlington County homes continue to benefit from his teaching expertise through the summer programs the Gallery provides for children. Often additional classes are offered during the winter months as well. The Firehouse Gallery expanded its business into the publishing world in 2010 with the printing of “The Art Student’s Workbook” as well as others. The Workbook is often on Amazon’s top 100 Art instruction books. It’s a collection of Gibbons’ worksheets, lessons, and supplemental information that he has used in his teaching since 1991.
