Explore Riverton

Start with the local guide for the town's history, schools, property taxes, the River Line and a look at recent home sales.

Old-world charm on the Delaware

Riverton sits right on the Delaware River, just up the water from the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge and next door to Palmyra. It began in 1851 as a planned village of summer homes for Philadelphia families, laid out by architect Samuel Sloan, and that history is still easy to see on every street.

The Riverton Yacht Club, organized in 1865, is the heart of the waterfront. Its pier is the last steamboat landing left on the Delaware, and it is where the town's famous Fourth of July children's parade begins.

What makes it special

  • Historic district. About 80 acres of Riverton are on the National Register of Historic Places, with several hundred historic buildings.
  • Victorian homes. Wraparound porches, gingerbread trim and mature trees, in six Victorian styles.
  • Gas lamps and sidewalks. A walkable, old-fashioned feel that is hard to find anymore.
  • River LINE station. Light rail in the town center, with Palmyra and the bridge close by.
