In the township of Cherry Hill, NJ there is a special Camden County property that has been providing fresh produce to customers since it was purchased by Alan Ebert when he finished his time in the Navy in 1949. Now Springdale Farms is Cherry Hill’s last working farm. It attracts hundreds of people every week from the surrounding areas. The yearning for freshly made pies, cakes, and other pastries baked right on the premises, and the desire for the taste of home-grown produce draws people from all walks of life. Chefs from local restaurants buy their fresh fruits and vegetables there, which makes Springdale Farms one of the primary farms involved in the “Farm to Fork” program set up by the South Jersey Independent Restaurant Association.
In 1931, the Farm was not the only Camden County property with owners living the farming lifestyle. In fact there were 82 farms in the Cherry Hill area alone. Now Springdale Farms preserves this traditional lifestyle in order to make its “fruits” available to today’s modern families. Visiting the Farm has become a tradition for many people, with customers beginning their summer activities with the Farm’s annual “Pick-Your-Own Strawberries” promotion, and then returning from the middle of September through October to pick out pumpkins.
